Custom Penta Prisms

Penta prisms are precision optical prisms designed to deviate a light beam by 90 degrees without inverting or reversing the image. Unlike right angle prisms, the deviation angle of a penta prism is not affected by small prism rotation errors, making it ideal for measurement and alignment applications.

Penta prisms are widely used in surveying instruments, optical alignment systems, rangefinders, periscopes and precision measuring devices.

BK7 and H-K9L are suitable for visible optical systems, while fused silica is preferred for UV or high-power laser applications.

Coating Options

Penta prisms normally require reflective coating on two internal reflecting surfaces because the reflection angle does not always meet total internal reflection conditions. AR coating can also be applied to the entrance and exit faces to improve transmission.
