Custom Triangular Prisms

Triangular prisms are precision optical components with a triangular cross-section. They are widely used to refract, deviate, disperse or redirect light in optical systems. Depending on the prism angle, material and coating, triangular prisms can be used for beam deviation, spectral dispersion, wavelength separation, teaching experiments, laser systems and optical instruments.

What Is a Triangular Prism?

A triangular prism is an optical prism with three rectangular side surfaces and two triangular end faces. When light enters the prism, it is refracted at the optical surfaces. Different wavelengths can be bent by different amounts, making triangular prisms useful for light dispersion and spectral separation.

Triangular prisms can also be designed for simple beam deviation, optical experiments, imaging systems and custom light path control.

Triangular Prism for Light Dispersion

One of the most common uses of a triangular prism is light dispersion. When white light passes through the prism, different wavelengths are refracted by different angles. This allows the prism to separate white light into different colors or wavelengths.
